West Ham Topped The Basement Four Mini League

West Ham's troubled season started out very promisingly back in August last year. An emphatic 2-0 win against Wolves remained the Hammers' only away win. That away form eluded us all season but it will be back against Fulham this Sunday now that relegation has been avoided.

One key advantage West Ham had in the relegation fight was the superb results against our fellow relegation strugglers. West Ham only lost once and won three home games against Hull, Portsmouth and Burnley scoring lots of goals in the process.

The Basement Four Mini League has West Ham at the top of the table.

As seen from the table, West Ham topped the Basement Four Mini League with 11 points, thus enabling the Hammers to stay ahead of the relegation strugglers. Hull City and Burnley could not capitalise on good wins against mid-table opposition as they lost the games that mattered. West Ham recognised the importance of these basement battles and pinned their survival hopes on winning these games. A smart tactical move by Zola and the coaching teams.

It's great that we avoided relegation this season. West Ham have to move on from this next season. With a better team and a more experienced manager, anything can happen...even Europe. A new season a new hope and definitely with a better squad if Gold & Sullivan are to be believed.
