English Premier League Suffering From Lack Of Flair And Young Talents?

James Milner and Wayne Rooney have won the PFA Young Player and Player of the Year Awards. The PFA unfortunately did not do a great job in nominations for Young Player of the Year. How else would you explain why Rooney and Fabregas are nominated AGAIN for Young Player? In fact, I think that Joe Hart have had a fantastic season making 126 saves and keeping ten clean sheets thus far. He has been instrumental in Birmingham's first Premiership season and should be credited for Birmingham's League-best defensive home record.

Either way, I would normally associate young players with lots of flair, pace and technical trickery. However, this year has been devoid of any such player. Victor Moses came into the Premiership as possibly that type of player but unfortunately he still need time to mature and blossom.

When you think young talents, this year especially two players come to mind and they are from the Spanish La Liga. Sergio Canales and Iker Munian.

Both have been unleashed this season by their clubs and have made significant progress throughout the season. Sergio Canales, in particular, will now move to Real Madrid next season as the long-term natural replacement for Guti. A player with natural flair, technical ability and instinctive finishing, this teenager could be the future of Spanish football.

Does the English Premiership have players like Canales or Munian?

Not since a young teenaged Cristiano Ronaldo has the Premiership seen any young talent that could excite and bring fans to their feet.

Is the emphasis in pace and power detrimental to development of flair and finesse in the Premier League? Is the most exciting league in the world getting by on its relentless pace and power? Will we ever see the tricks and flicks that are staples in Spain?

I for one, would like to see the return of flair players to the Premiership. From way back, the Premiership have had exciting flair players in Ginola, Asprilla and Cantona. These are players that add a certain fantasy and imagination to the directness of the Premier League. Now this talent pool is dangerously shrinking. As it turns out, Nani, is perhaps the most exciting player right now in the Premiership for me and he isn't even one that can be considered as world's best.
