Liverpool fans by now are waiting with bated breath on the confirmation of Argentinian international, Maxi Rodriquez transfer to Liverpool. Not only Liverpool fans, I might add but also Fernando Torres. It has been well printed that of all the players he would like to have in Liverpool, Torres would recommend Maxi.
Mention the name Maxi Rodriguez and World Cup fans would be reminded of that amazing volley against Mexico in 2006. A goal that was rightfully voted as the goal of the tournament that year.
To Atletico Madrid fans, Maxi is adored and respected as a player who helped them forget about Fernando Torres.
He took over the captaincy when Torres left for Liverpool and he was outstanding last season as Atletico finished fourth in the Spanish La Liga. Capable of playing as a striker but more effective as a right winger, Maxi can be counted on to score goals and though right footed, packs a great shot with his left as well."La Fiera" or "The Fiery One", as he is known, will be seen as the high-octane spark that Rafa Benitez will hope to inspire the Reds to a top four finish and perhaps even the Europa Cup. The Argentine will also be hoping that he can regain his form in time to make it to the Argentina 2010 World Cup squad. This Liverpool marriage looks to be a great win-win situation.
Mirror Football reported that Maxi said this,
“The Premier League is incredible. I have played in some English stadiums and the atmosphere is unique. It is the closest thing to Argentina.”
This could very well turn out to be THE inspired signing of the season. Slowed down in recent times by injuries, Maxi will make up the loss of pace with his technical ability on the ball and intelligent runs into the penalty box. One thing is for sure, with Maxi Rodriguez, La Fiera will always give his 110% on the pitch. A trait that the beleaguered Liverpool boss emphasize in his players more than anything else. Finally, Liverpool have some genuine attacking width!
