Carlos Tevez Definitely A Premier League Success

Since the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo to the Spanish La Liga, the Premier League was searching for a new world class player who could be as brilliant as the phenomenal Portuguese. Fernando Torres threatened briefly until he started sulking more than scoring, Didier Drogba could never be that star face as he is all brute force but Carlos Tevez could have been that world class marquee player that the Barclays Premier League needed.

Instead for all the important goals he had scored for West Ham, Manchester United and City, he will forever be remembered for refusing to play in last night's Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich. Carlitos' two-year stay at Manchester City has been an ongoing saga. This latest episode has all but hasten his exit.

It's easy to forget the talismanic effects of Carlitos for City, after all the well documented problems he had faced. For West Ham fans though, this man can do no wrong, forever remembered for singlehandedly keeping the Hammers in the Premier League in his first season. No other player is more closely associated to conjuring up a miracle relegation escape as the effervescent Argentine star. Here's how he did it.

Carlitos Come Alive With Two Goals Against El Tri

Argentina is never far from controversy. The Albiceleste are often times soap-operatic with a hint of dramatism thrown in. As if not willing to be outdone by England's unfortunate "Wembley Goal", Argentina created their own talking point in the last 16 match against Mexico.

Once again, the referee and linesman decisions threatened to overshadow a potentially excellent match. Prior to that fateful offside goal, El Tri had rattled the Argentinians. Marauding fullback, Carlos Salcido unleashed a long-range shot which Romero did well to tip it onto his crossbar. Gio dos Santos was doing his best impression of Lionel Messi in the earlier minutes. Gio's through ball after some fine running, allowed Javier Hernandez a chance to flash his shot just wide of Romero's goal. Highly rated Andres Guardado was stunning in the first half, as he tried to find a way through the Argentinian midfield and defence.

All the Mexicans' good work and lively football fell apart as Carlos Tevez headed home a goal that was so offside that only Roberto Rosettie and Stefano Ayroldi can explain why the goal stood. That controversy completely knocked the wind out of Mexico's sails and they never recovered. Worse yet, El Tri conceded a poor goal which the predatory Higuain gleefully accepted and rolled it into the Mexican net. Those two pivotal moments killed off any Mexican hopes of upsetting the mighty Argentina.

The Double and The Dramatic Late Winner - Goals From West Ham's Victories Over Manchester United

The last time West Ham was embroiled in a relegation struggle was in 2006/2007. It was also the season where the transfer controversy of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano dominated the headlines. As it were, Carlitos played an influential part in securing Premiership survival that season. His enthusiastic, energetic and tireless workrate earned him the affection of the West Ham fans.

This season has been no less stressful and frustrating but with two wins on the trot, it may be that the Hammers have turned the corner finally. But now, with confidence sky-high, is it a bad time to face the current champions in their backyard?

We should be facing a nervous United, still missing their experienced centrebacks of Ferdinand and Vidic. Without these two, United seemed a soft touch in central defence, a weakness fully exploited by Everton on their excellent 3-1 win over the Red Devils.

Benni McCarthy? Benjani Mwaruwari? What West Ham Need Is A Carlos Tevez-Like Striker!

Ever since Gold and Sullivan took over the club with 50% ownership, they have been very active. Active in gaining fan support and eagerly showing each other off as lifelong Hammer fan. Truth be told, G&S are possibly the best recipient of a club in "haemorrage" (as they have put it). The spin that they have been putting on in the hunt for that prolific striker have been feverish and the media have lapped this up eagerly. Early this season, West Ham was in the news for all the wrong reasons. Now, the Irons are rarely out of the news and it's positive as the owners look to bolster the depleted attack line.

A number of strikers have been linked with West Ham since then, Benni McCarthy, Benjani, James Beattie, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Juan Carlos Menseguez and even the unlikely Robbie Keane. Let's face it, there was hardly any chance that Ruud Van Nistelrooy would relish a Premiership relegation scrap, is there? As good a master goal poacher, Van Nistelrooy is, I believe that he is only effective when chances are created for him, he is not a scrapper.

And that's the reality of the situation West Ham have found themselves....we have to scrap for survival. Therefore, we need terrier-like strikers, strikers who would fight for every ball, impose themselves on the game and generally give opposition defenders no rest. A Carlos Tevez-like striker is what we need and we need no reminding the huge performances and workrate that he put in to keep West Ham in the Premiership in 2006/2007. I am convinced that's the quality and attitude we need to bring in.
